Participation Fee – The fee is $30.00 per sport with a limit of $90.00 per student and $150.00 per family for the school year.

Scholarships are available for those in need. Inquire at the Main Office.

Academic Eligibility: 

Students in Good Standing earn passing grades (D or higher) in all classes.

The eligibility of students earning a failing grade in one or more subjects will be reviewed. Athletic Directors will check students' grades throughout the athletic season (2nd, 4th, and 6th weeks of competition, as well as midterm and quarter grades). They will use their best judgment to determine when these checks should occur, with priority on midterm and quarter grades. Track and Field has more specific guidelines listed below because students miss school to participate in meets. 

• Students who are failing one or more classes during a grade check will be ineligible to compete until they have restored academic eligibility. During this time, they are expected to attend practice but will not be allowed to participate in games or competitions.

• A follow-up grade check will be conducted to determine eligibility. If a student has raised their grades, they will be eligible to return to competition. If they have not raised all grades to passing, they will be out for the next 5 days of competition. This process will repeat for the duration of the season. 

For students participating in track and field, grade checks will be conducted one day before each meet. If a student-athlete has one or more failing grades at the time of the grade check, they will be ineligible to participate in that meet. All missing assignments must be submitted before the grade check is conducted. If a student turns in missing work on the day of the grade check, the grade recorded at the time of the check will be used to determine eligibility. Grade changes made after the grade check has been completed will not be used to change eligibility for that meet. Student-athletes are responsible for communicating with their teachers in advance to identify missing assignments, understand what needs to be completed, and take the necessary steps to maintain passing grades before the grade check occurs.

Behavior Eligibility: 

Students in Good Standing abide by all expectations listed in the Middle School Behavior Criteria.

Any students who have received one major ODR (Office Discipline Referral) in a season will be ineligible for one calendar week.  If a student receives a second major ODR in a sports season, they may be held out for the remainder of that season.     

Students who receive a major safety-related ODR that results in a citation from law enforcement and/or an  in or out-of-school suspension will be ineligible to participate in school activities for the remainder of the year. This includes students who receive a major ODR related to the student being in possession of or using tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs/substances or imitation or possession of paraphernalia (pipe, vape pen, etc.)

Participation in school athletics is a privilege. Student-athletes are expected to demonstrate behavior that reflects positively on themselves, their team, and the school at all practices, meets, games, school-sponsored events, and while representing the school in any athletic setting.

If a student-athlete is involved in behavior that qualifies as an Office Discipline Referral level offense at a practice, game, meet, or other school-sponsored athletic event, the student will receive a consequence connected to athletic participation. This may include, but is not limited to, missing part or all of a practice, game, meet, or competition; or being removed from the team.

Student-athletes may also be held accountable when they are associated with, present for, fail to remove themselves from, or fail to report behavior that rises to the level of an Office Discipline Referral. This includes group behavior or situations where the available information indicates that a limited group of students was involved or present, even if individual responsibility for each specific action cannot be clearly determined.

Student-athletes may be held accountable not only for their own direct actions, but also for their role in group behavior, failure to report serious misconduct, failure to separate themselves from inappropriate conduct, or participation in situations that negatively impact the safety, dignity, or experience of others.

Final decisions regarding athletic consequences, suspension from competition, or removal from a team due to inappropriate conduct will be made by school administration in consultation with the coaching staff as appropriate.

*Administrators reserve the right to adjust consequences at their discretion pending the determination of unique circumstances.

Attendance: 

Students in Good Standing have prompt, regular attendance. A student must be in class every scheduled period of the school day or have given documentation for an exempt absence to the attendance clerk or an administrator for that day. An exempt absence is defined as an absence due to a legal, medical/dental, bereavement, or school-sponsored reason. 

Students who have missed a total of five or more days of school or practice in one season will be ineligible for competition. If a student is absent for the entire day on a game day and the absence is unrelated to a school event, the student will not be allowed to compete that day.

For track, student-athletes must attend at least 3 practices before the first meet to be eligible to compete in that meet (Student-athletes competing in the final week of the wrestling season are exempt but expected to begin participating in track at the end of the wrestling season). Students are expected to regularly attend practices unless they have a written, approved excuse for missing them.
